Abstract
The preparation procedure of activated carbons with acid or basic properties has been optimized in order to prepare acid/basic solids with a high number of strong acid-basic active sites on the surface of the carbon material. These solids have been prepared by chemical activation of biomass waste (olive stone) with different activation agents (NaOH or H3PO4) and present appropriate porous structure for being used as heterogeneous catalysts. The acid/basic properties of the surface of the carbons have been analyzed by pH titrations. These carbon materials with acid or basic surface sites can be used for a wide range of biomass waste transformation processes.
