Step by Step Tutorial for paper submission:

CELLULOSE CHEMISTRY AND TECHNOLOGY

GUIDE TO AUTHORS

The journal Cellulose Chemistry and Technology acts as a medium for the exchange of ideas on all aspects of natural macromolecular compounds, wood and annual plants. It covers the study and exploitation of the industrial applications of natural polymers in areas such as pulp and paper, textiles, wood, adhesives, pharmaceuticals and industrial chemistry.

Types of contributions: Original research papers; short communications; rapid communications. Review articles will be published following invitation or by the suggestion of authors. Cellulose Chemistry and Technology also publishes book reviews, conference reports and a calendar of the forthcoming events.

Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities of the institution(s) where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the publisher. Therefore, please add the following statement to your cover letter:

“We confirm that this manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal. All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to Cellulose Chemistry and Technology.”

The cover letter should be signed.

The evaluation process of the manuscripts lasts approximately 4-6 weeks, varying as a function of reviewers’ availability, as well as authors’ compliance with the journal’s guidelines and reviewers’ comments.

The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk. Authors are also requested to propose the names and contact details (including e-mail address) of three potential referees.

Manuscripts must be formatted for standard A4 paper, with margins of 2.5 cm. A font size of 11 pt (Times New Roman, normal), single spacing and an indentation of 0.5 cm for the first line of each paragraph are required.

Text: Authors are requested to follow this order when submitting manuscripts: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Main text, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figure captions. Do not import Figures into your text. Other than the cover page, every page of the manuscript, including the title page, references, tables etc. should be numbered; however, no reference should be made in the text to page numbers.

Abstract: A concise and factual abstract is required (about 100-150 words). The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone. References should therefore be avoided, but if essential, they must be cited in full, without reference to the reference list. Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided but, if essential, they should be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.

Units:The SI system should be used for all scientific and laboratory data. In certain instances, it might be necessary to quote other units. These should be added in parentheses. Temperatures should be given in degrees Celsius.

Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text and given suitable captions. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in tables do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.

Illustrations: Photographs, figures and schemes (in .jpg format) should be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text and given suitable captions. They should not be included within the text. Technical requirements for images: width x height: 1024 x 768 (min), quality of print: 300 dpi, total size per picture: 5 Mb (max). All illustrations should be clearly marked with the figure number.

References: All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. Citations are numbered sequentially, first in the text, then through the references. In the text, place citation numbers (as superscript) after full stop/comma, or after the author’s name, if it is mentioned. Use et al. (italics) for more than five authors – to be added after the fifth author’s name. The full reference should be given in a numerical list at the end of the paper. References should be given as in the following examples:
1 J. B. Mitton and M. C. Grant, Bioscience, 46, 25 (1996) – use ISI title abbreviations and mention initial page only.
2 N. Moroishi, in “Wood and Cellulosic Chemistry”, edited by D. N. S. Hon and N. Shiraishi, Marcel Dekker Inc., 1991, pp. 331-394.
3 K. C. Kairouz and R. J. Heath, in Procs. ECCM-7 Conference, London, May 5 - 7, 1996, pp. 79-85.

Short Communications: follow the same format as for the full papers, except that the Results and Discussion sections should be combined. Manuscripts should not exceed 2000 words.
Rapid Communications: Short Communication papers for publication on an accelerated schedule. They report highly significant new findings and indicate new directions of research.
Special Issues: Proposals for Special Issues of full research papers that focus on a specific topic or theme will be considered.
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author and should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors. All queries should be answered.
