Abstract
In this research work, recycled papers differing by the grammage and recycled fiber content were analysed. The
research was focused on the properties of paper substrates, which are crucial for the functionality of printed antennas
used in radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. Two commercially available printing inks with conductive silver
particles were applied. The surface properties of coated and uncoated papers were analysed in connection with the
conductivity of the printed ink layer. The thermal stability of the paper substrates was also evaluated as a function of
various drying temperatures and processes. Another aspect of the investigation was the evaluation of the stability and
print quality of the printed ink layer. The results have shown that recycled paper is an appropriate substrate for the
printed electronic structures, such as RFID antennas, and could also be used for packaging applications.
