Abstract
In this research, the biosorption of basic blue 9(BB9) was studied in batch mode using Foumanat tea waste (FTW) as low-cost adsorbent. In this attempt, there is a cost-saving potential given that there was no further modification of FTW (just washed with distilled water to remove dirt and color, then dried in an oven). Equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Sips and Redlich-Peterson models. Maximum saturated monolayer sorption capacity of FTW for BB9 was 242 mg/g at 303 K. The removal of BB9 by FTW followed pseudo-second order reaction kinetics based on Lagergren equations. Various thermodynamic parameters, such as ∆G°, ∆H°, ∆S° and Ea, have been calculated. The findings of this investigation suggested that physical sorption plays a role in controlling the sorption rate. We investigated the adsorption mechanism by FTIR and SEM techniques. FTIR data indicate that BB9 binding occurredmostly at –OH and C=O groups of FTW.
